At Cascades Women's Health, we are really excited about the implementation of a new electronic health record system. The system is called Digichart, a program designed by OB-GYN's for OB-GYN's. It is the only ehr (electronic health record) program that is approved and licensed to use the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists prenatal record form. The system should improve the efficiency, security, timeliness, and accuracy of your medical record.
One of the features allows the patient to input their history (medical information) from any computer that has internet access. The information may be entered up to two weeks prior to their appointment or two hours after the appointment. The medical history can be reviewed by their provider prior to the office visit and then again during their appointment. Another feature allows additional information to be entered by your provider during the office visit, including the physical exam, diagnosis, procedures, and treatment plans and prescription will be printed or faxed to your pharmacy. During the office visit, your provider will be inputing the above information on a tablet pc and then sent to our network server over a wireless network.
There is a learning curve for any new technology. We would ask that our patients try to be understanding, patient and helpful while we are implementing this new program. Generally, patients are extremely satisfied with this type of program because they quickly learn the value, efficiency, accuracy, and practical advantages of an ehr. Patients enjoy the possibility of sharing in their healthcare.
